Our Three First Dates

I met Carol at a mutual friend's dorm room party at NJIT. I knew who Carol was already because going to a geeky engineering school you knew who the pretty girls on campus were. Carol did not know who I was at this point...or did she? That night I introduced myself to Carol and to no one's surprise we exchanged phone numbers that night. A few weeks later I invited Carol to a romantic dinner in Hoboken and she agreed. On that first date I failed miserably to make a good impression. After this date Carol and I would see each other on campus and she would say hi but quickly run away. It wasn't until a year later as Carol and I were nearing graduation that I found myself bumping into Carol more often at our favorite local hangout spots, 27Mix and McGoverns Tavern. We started chatting more frequently and eventually I asked Carol out again in the summer after graduation. This time around I really wanted to make a good impression on her so I decided that I would take her out dancing in NYC. I also invited my stepbrother Sam and his girlfriend Karen (now wife!). I did so knowing that Sam was a good time and that Karen was Guatemalan and therefore would connect easily with Carol knowing that Carol was also Guatemalan. My plan worked out to perfection. We went out in NYC to a latin music club where I reserved a table with a bottle of what might have been Grey Goose (ps. I can no longer drink vodka). It ended being a really fun night. We followed up our second first date with another date in Hoboken where somewhere in the night, things went terribly wrong. Carol will claim it was because I tried to hold her hand too soon and she was not ok with that at that time. We quickly ended things and stopped talking to each other for another year. Then something happened in the Fall of 2013. I was going to grad school night classes at NJIT and was reminded of Carol so I reached out to her to see how she was doing. It was not easy but for some inexplicably reason she agreed to come out with me on another date. We went out to Son Cubanos on a cozy fall evening for a low key dinner where we chatted and caught up. It was a really nice evening where we even stuck around for the latin dancing to open up so we ended up dancing a little salsa. After our third first date I wanted to play it cool and not come on too strong so I decided I would not text Carol until she texted me first. It wasn't until 2 weeks later that Carol finally texted me asking me where did I disappear to. It was a Friday night and I was in night class. That night Carol was out for her friend's birthday dinner at Rumba Cubana. I technically invited myself to meet up with Carol and shortly after night class I drove up to West New York to meet up with Carol. After that night when Carol texted me back, the rest is history. Its been almost 10 wonderful years with so many good memories. We are so excited to celebrate our love after all these years and host our catholic wedding in Antigua, Guatemala. We invite you to join us, and really hope you can come celebrate with us!
